Job Summary:
The Test Engineer's role is to prepare and execute test cases for a given project and summarize the results of the testing process. This role participates in conducting quality reviews before the product is delivered to the customer.
Key Responsibility Areas:
Project Planning, Tracking, & Reporting
• Provide status of assigned work.
• Notify the Senior Test Engineer/Test Analyst upon identifying any issues that can affect the project schedule.
• Review work of Trainee Test Engineer as appropriate.
Creation & Execution
• Prepare test data using available data within the project team. Make/create necessary modifications for the new project, using Components when possible.
• Create, execute, and store test cases in a test script repository based on the use cases, high level requirement scenarios, Project Test Plan, and the supplemental requirements, as per the test plan and within the schedule.
• Identify need for automated test scripts and may create automated test scripts.
• Test all requirements and supporting specifications using the test cases. Remove any duplicate, invalid, and out-of-scope scenarios from the test cases.
• Verify actual versus expected test results. Review unexpected results for origination of the defect (test data, requirements, coding).
• Submit clear, concise, and complete defects to the appropriate parties using the issue management tool.
• Execute the test plan by retesting issues until closure.
Documentation
• Log the test results by identifying specific tests that succeeded/failed.
• Document complete and accurate test results.
Process Management
• Adhere to the project process. Formal Education & Certification:
• Bachelors/Masters Degree in Engineering/Computer Applications
• Certification in Computer stream.
Knowledge & Experience:
1 + years of industry experience including:
• Knowledge of SDLC, Testing Methodology
• Exposure to Black Box (Manual and Automated) testing is desirable
• Experience in SEI CMMI Quality Processes relevant for Testing is desirable
Work Conditions:
• Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
• Sitting for extended periods of time.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
• Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
• Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
• Some travel may be required for the purpose of onsite/offsite software and system development management.
